Google has recently launched a new version of its popular toolbar. The nice thing about this is the implementation of the new tab feature with thumbnails or what we call Thumbshots over here.
When you click to open a new tab, a tab will open displaying some of the useful information such as
- up to 9 websites you visit the most
- up to 9 recently saved bookmark websites
- up to 3 recently closed tabs
Google obviously have found how Thumbshots can be useful in their applications as they have done the same with their Chrome browser. They understand that our eyes can process information via images much faster than reading text. With images, our brain can pick up colors, forms and structures of a web preview and relate it to a familiar site that we have recently visited.
Still not convinced? Lets do a test. Below is a just smaller screenshot of what the new tab looks like in Google Toolbar. Quickly scan the page without even reading anything, you have already identified some of your favorite sites like Google Map, YouTube and Blogger.
Thumbshots works the same way for your website. Adding Thumbshots on your website can enhance usability for your visitors.
