| Affiliate Links Using Paid Thumbshots |
|
|
| Hi, we're an images based website and considering using paid Thumbshots to deliver 'up to date' website images/snapshots on our. Please can you confirm that if we place affiliate links on our site that Thumbshots will read and display the actual landing pages and not blank screens or affiliate pages as the affiliate links are just for tracking purposes.. the tracking links redirect/forward on to the correct landing page.. these are the pages/images which need to be displayed on our site. I need to confirm this before we develop our systems to integrate the option of using Thumbshots. thanks.. |

Hi Drew, yes you may place affiliate links as you describe.
If you are using the Free Thumbshots, you are getting some black screens because they are likely not the Top level URLs. For specific URL thumbshots, you can use our premium service for as little as $4.99. Here a comparison table.

Hi Justin
thank you for your reply. We have purchased the premium package and developed our system further to enable premium Thumbshots, the system is working, however as per my original post the Affiliate links are not working correctly.. the images being displayed on our site are of the actual 'Affiliate Network' company homepage and not the actual landing page. An example url which i am trying to get to work is http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=3431&a=1860638&g=17632 the page displaying on our site is 'TradeDoubler.com when it should be 'Kelkoo'.
Do you have any advice?
thanks
Drew

Hi, make sure you encode the URL when passing the query string so it picks up the full URL as there are special reserved characters in the URL that you cannot just paste as is.
See more information on URL encoding here:
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_urlencode.asp
Also, if you know the actual landing page, you can provide that URL in place of the affiliate link.
Thanks,

Hi, does this mean I have to hard-code the Affiliate link every time I want to use Thumbshots to desplay an image on our site?
Take a look at the following 3 pages which we have created on our site:
http://www.keywordimages.com/i/360/TradeDoubler.html
http://www.keywordimages.com/i/361/domain-names.html
http://www.keywordimages.com/i/362/child-sponsorship.html
If you hover you cursor over the keyword on the page you will see the affiliate link (depending on which browser you're using)
Our site is a directory.. when someone creates a listing they choose a keyword, assign the url to it and write a description. The image displayed on the page is drawn from the url submitted during the listing creation.. this is where we are having problems.. the displayed images on all three page are of TradeDoubler.com homepage and not the actual landing page of the url i.e. Kelkoo, ActionAid and 123Reg.co.uk
Can you advise what we're doing wrong?
thanks

When possible, the URL you pass to us to generate the Thumbshots should be the final destination URL (landing page), otherwise it could be the affiliate link also. Your hyperlink can remain the affiliate link. The reason is to allow our robot to generate the Thumbshots faster as we may already have it in our database. If you pass us the affiliate URL, we will have to queue it up and generate a new image since that URL is different for every publisher and this can take time. www.thumbshots.com |

Yes, it will read the landing page, however, you can provide the final destination URL to our image code if you already know it ahead of time so it will be faster to return the Thumbshots image otherwise every link is unique and need to be generated. The hyperlink, however, can be pointed to the affiliate URL so you get your commission.
Thanks
