Smartdevil develops IP telephony system with state of the art echo cancellation

In an ongoing effort to improve the way we communicate over the Internet, Smartdevil is researching on new alternatives to the current implementation of IP (Internet protocol) telephony. Initial results have been very exciting and encouraging with the latest introduction of its IP telephony software code named "VIP". The new IP telephony software will allow users to communicate using the Internet with high fidelity over slow lines previously difficult to implement or unavailable. The software uses an extended UDP protocol to circumvent the loss of packets while providing high-speed voice transmission. What this means for normal users is that you can now communicate clearly on the Internet over very far distances such as from New York to Beijing with very little delay.

Even more amazing, VIP comes with a built-in state of the art echo cancellation filter to eliminate annoying echo transmitted from external speakers looping back into the microphone. Previously, software that implements IP telephony attempts to eliminate echo by muting the speakers when voice is detected in the microphone. Using such crude implementation, users can never talk and listen simultaneously. With true echo cancellation filter in place, users can now talk and listen clearly both at the same time. Preliminary testing successfully reduced echo by an astonishing factor of 80% resulting in a speech that is always clear and requires less bandwidth to transmit.

The IP telephony market is expected to grow exponentially for the next few years as more people use the Internet for their day-to-day activity. As broadband becomes more readily available nationwide and internationally, IP telephony solutions will become a clear replacement for expensive phone calls. Already large corporations are switching over to digital voice networks to reduce cost on international calls.
